Christian step/single parent and blended families ministry.
How churches can support Single and Step families.
Below is a list of suggestions Churches can adopt in their ministry to families affected by separation, divorce and remarriage.
Church leaders need to start with losing the assumption that nuclear and step families are the same and have similar issues. By spending time talking with step families, pastors will quickly learn of some of the intricacies and issues such families deal with.
Ask – How can we support you?
Pray regularly and offer discipleship
Connect step families and single parents with each but avoid grouping families based on structure; i.e. Family social gatherings are for all families.
Honour all family structures within your church community.
Exercise sensitivity on Mother’s and Father’s days.
Foster a spirit of inclusivity, making sure that all members belong
Develop a strong GRACE filled theology within your church
Recognise that there is “No-one righteous” and that “All have sinned and fallen short of His glory” and that “Whoever confesses their sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive their sins and cleanse them from all unrighteousness”.
Avoid labelling people according to their past or current marital status.
